As we approach another pandemic winter holiday, many of us are planning some family reunions or expanded guest lists as health and safety protocols relax. Take the stress out of your holiday planning with our stress-free holiday party tips.
It’s the getting together that matters most, not the party or presentation. Keep things simple by limiting what you cook to one or two items only. This way you’ll have more time to relax and enjoy the night. For the rest of the meal, ask guest to bring a dish or order ahead from your favourite local restaurant.
One of the most time consuming or aggravating aspects of holiday parties is doing the dishes. So many companies are now making pretty holiday dinnerware that’s either recyclable or compostable. So, this year, skip the dishes and use disposable dinnerware instead. Your meal will still taste just as good, and your guests will enjoy the extra time spent with you.
Keep the table setting simple. Buy a paper holiday tablecloth so you don’t have to stress about stains. Choose a small centerpiece or fold everyone’s napkin into a fun holiday shape. Your napkins can be folded into fun festive designs whether they’re linen or paper. If you choose paper napkins, ensure they are large and thick for a crisp fold.
Instead of offering a wide selection of drinks, pare down your options. A big batch of festive punch for all to enjoy can be made ahead of time. Pick only two alcoholic and two non-alcoholic drinks options. Alternatively, ask your guests to bring drinks and keep drinks in a cooler to free up space in the fridge.
Don’t overcrowd your coat closet. Eliminate the jam-packed closets by putting all guests coats on a bed. Lay them side by side so you can easily pick them out when it’s time to wind down the party. Don’t want your bedroom accessible during the party? Empty your regular coats and items from your coat closet and put them in your bedroom for the party.
Remember to relax and enjoy yourself. Your family and friends aren’t there for perfection, they’re only looking forward to spending time with you.
