Looking for some exciting activities this summer? Calgary is full of amazing summer activities, events, and festivals to keep you and your family entertained and having fun all summer.
The Taste of Calgary is the perfect way to start your summer fun. Who doesn’t want to try a little bit of everything? Buy dollar tickets online and use them to purchase samplings from some of Calgary’s best restaurants, food trucks, or breweries and distilleries. There’ll be shopping with some of the best marketplace vendors, live musical performances, and of course some of the best food and drink you’ll try all summer. Taste of Calgary runs August 4th to the 7th at its new location in LOT 6 on the corner of 4th Avenue and 9th Street (right before the Louise Bridge into Kensington).
When you’re looking for adventure, head to Winsport’s Canada Olympic Park. During the summer this park opens its mountain bike park and Monster Zipline track which are perfect for thrill seekers. Other exciting activities include the Summer Bobsleigh ride and the downhill karting course. Not at thrill seeker? No problem, enjoy the mini golf course or ride the ’88 express chair lift for an amazing view of the Calgary skyline.
Calgary’s beautiful rivers are perfect for spending aboard a raft for a lazy day on the water. Try it yourself with a canoe, kayak, or raft along the Bow River. Board your vessel at Baker Park or at Bowness Park and travel from park to park down the river. This river passes Shouldice Park, Edworthy Park, and Prince’s Island Park so you could spend anywhere from an hour to 3 hours riding down the river. If you don’t have your own vessel, rent from The Paddle Station and have your equipment transported to the water.
Top off your summer with day at the beach. Sikome Lake is a man-made lake for swimming. The Sikome Aquatic Facility opens the lake as a public beach with clean safe water for swimming. Grab an umbrella, blanket, and your swimsuit and enjoy a sunny day by the water. Sikome Lake is open daily from 10am to 7pm with family day passes at $10.
